After my talk at SCEKL2025, The Edge Malaysia featured key insights on AI-driven urban innovation and data governance. I clarified the role of the EU Data Act in shaping secure, interoperable, and citizen-centric smart city ecosystems—ensuring digital progress aligns with trust and accountability.
The #media recently covered my #talk at the Smart City Expo Kuala Lumpur (day 3) in the The Edge Malaysia 🇲🇾, highlighting #AI and digital initiatives transforming urban living.
I emphasised that #ASEAN smart cities need interconnected ecosystems underpinned by robust #datagovernance frameworks, supported by integrated policies and interoperable infrastructures for secure data sharing and connectivity.
Correction: Some reports misrepresented my comments, suggesting #IoT companies must ask for consent “to build new policies.” In fact, since September 2025, the EU #DataAct 🇪🇺 makes sharing IoT data with the public sector mandatory—but only with users’ explicit #consent (except under GDPR exemptions for emergencies), to support evidence-based policies.
Strong #governance ensures smart cities remain sustainable, inclusive, and investment-ready.
