Air Quality Innovation: Bridging Smart Cities and Public Health

Last week’s workshop at PRASARANA MALAYSIA BERHAD highlighted the intersection of air quality and smart city solutions. Dr. Shahrul Nadzir’s presentation from UKM showcased a mobile air quality sensor, reflecting my own HSE background and past work on similar AI-driven initiatives. The event fostered valuable connections and discussions on innovative, cost-effective technologies for healthier urban environments.

Last week, I was invited at PRASARANA MALAYSIA BERHAD (PT operator 🇲🇾) to join a small workshop on the topic of #airquality assessment in public transportation, including #smartcity solutions (IoT). Air quality is a crucial (and very sensitive) environmental topic, even in more advanced countries such as #France 🇨🇵 (investigation in #Paris).

At this workshop, Dr. Shahrul Nadzir nicely presented the final results of a project led by his Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in collaboration with Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR). A few months ago, I had the opportunity to visit UTAR. What a small 🌏 ! 😄

Among experts such as SALINA HANG JEBAT 🙏 , I also had the chance to finally meet Soon Li Wei, journalist at Malaysian National News Agency (BERNAMA). We were virtually in touch but this time, we could have a great first exchange ! 😊

Dr. Shahrul Nadzir Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) has developed a mobile air quality sensor, which is currently tested in several use cases in #Malaysia 🇲🇾. He is also the founder of DeRIA-LAH Sdn Bhd, a new startup launched last April, which manufactures high quality and innovative sensor technologies (less cost & high accuracy).

Back to the future 😅, this topic relates to my very first diploma on Hygiene, Safety & Environment (HSE). As Digital city action line leader at EIT Digital (2017-19), I funded and supervised a similar initiative (involving AI). The #AMBICITI solution was developed by Inria in collaboration with ·numtech, and presented at Smart City Expo World Congress (2017). To know more !
