Returning to Kuala Lumpur, I’m gearing up for a workshop with Malaysian urban planners, focusing on sustainable urban development and SDG localisation. I’m excited to contribute my European expertise and town planning background to this dialogue, addressing governance, data-driven solutions, and capacity building. Together, we’ll explore avenues for positive community impact.
Today’s journey from Singapore to Johor Bahru’s Smart City Forum showcased the burgeoning ties between these neighboring cities, soon to be strengthened by the MRT’s RTS Link. This event underscored the region’s commitment to smart city development, highlighting the need for robust data strategies to complement top-down governance. Malaysia’s smart city trajectory is gaining momentum, promising an era of interconnected, data-empowered urban centers.
In Singapore, I met Syed Mubarak—an expert in ESG and SDGs. As Vice President of the Smart Cities Network_ASEAN, we discussed urban sustainability, digital platforms, and governance challenges. Our shared goal: IMPACT BY 2030! Our encounter at the Housing & Development Board’s expo marks the start of a transcontinental partnership. Europe and ASEAN unite for smarter, sustainable cities.
