The CityEnabler for Digital Urban Services (CEDUS) stands as a testament to the transformative power of open urban data platforms. As the brainchild of the EIT Digital initiative, CEDUS has redefined city planning and urban ecosystems across Europe and Latin America. Its recognition with the SelectforCities Award and adoption by over 350 smart cities worldwide underscores its pivotal role in advancing sustainability and quality of life in urban environments. Today, CEDUS continues to expand its influence, fostering global partnerships and setting the stage for the next wave of smart city innovation.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m passionate about smart and sustainable city strategies, and I want to share with you one of the most impactful initiatives that I led and funded when I was the Digital Cities Action Line Leader at EIT Digital<\/a> (2016-2019) \ud83c\uddea\ud83c\uddfa. It\u2019s called CEDUS<\/a> which stands for the #CityEnabler<\/a> for Digital Urban Services, a game-changer for #urbandata<\/a> and #openplatforms<\/a>.

#CEDUS<\/a> designed an open urban data platform that supports city planning and urban ecosystems. It follows the Open & Agile Smart Cities & Communities (OASC)<\/a>‘s principles and fully uses FIWARE<\/a>-based software components, which ensure #interoperability<\/a> and avoid vendor lock-ins.

The #CityEnabler<\/a> was an innovative solution that enables cities to provide a whole range of new services based on data integration and analysis.\u00a0Tested in several European and Latin American cities, such as Trento \ud83c\uddee\ud83c\uddf9, Malaga \ud83c\uddea\ud83c\uddf8, Rennes \ud83c\uddeb\ud83c\uddf7, and Santiago de Chile \ud83c\udde8\ud83c\uddf1, it has also won the EU-funded SelectforCities<\/a> \ud83c\uddea\ud83c\uddfa Award 2018 \ud83c\udfc6 for its excellence in urban data platforms. It is a great example of how #smartcities<\/a> and #urbandata<\/a> can contribute to improve the quality of life and #sustainability<\/a> of urban environments.

I showcased the #CityEnabler<\/a> at the Smart City Expo World Congress<\/a>, the leading event for #smartcities<\/a>, on stage along with top platform suppliers like Microsoft<\/a> \ud83c\uddfa\ud83c\uddf8, Huawei<\/a> \ud83c\udde8\ud83c\uddf3, NEC Corporation<\/a> \ud83c\uddef\ud83c\uddf5, and CEA<\/a> \ud83c\uddeb\ud83c\uddf7. Later on, I also initiated a partnership \ud83e\udd1d with Open & Agile Smart Cities & Communities (OASC)<\/a> to introduce #CEDUS<\/a> and the #CityEnabler<\/a> to various cities through a European roadshow<\/a> \ud83c\uddea\ud83c\uddfa on how regional and urban authorities can unlock the potential of data.

As a result, #CEDUS<\/a> became a reference for open urban data platforms in Europe and beyond, sparking a global movement that is today endorsed by the World Economic Forum<\/a>‘s G20 Global Smart Cities Alliance <\/a>\ud83c\udf10 as well as Living in EU<\/a> \ud83c\uddea\ud83c\uddfa, a platform that connects cities organisations and stakeholders in Europe. Six years later, more than 350 smart cities<\/a> worldwide \ud83d\ude80 use FIWARE<\/a>-based solutions, according to the former FIWARE<\/a> Foundation\u2019s CEO \ud83d\ude4c.

FIWARE<\/a> Foundation is nowadays a key pillar of the Smart City Expo World Congress<\/a> and is expanding its network worldwide \ud83c\udf10, collaborating with Japan \ud83c\uddef\ud83c\uddf5, Korea \ud83c\uddf0\ud83c\uddf7, India \ud83c\uddee\ud83c\uddf3 and more recently North America <\/a>\ud83c\uddfa\ud83c\uddf8, with a first sound step in South-East Asia \ud83c\udf0f (Indonesia \ud83c\uddee\ud83c\udde9).
